Stain Free Marble Tables : The Best Tips

|
Marble has been in use since time immemorial. Earlier the Greeks and Romans used it for making sculptures and statues, today it is extensively used as table tops and flooring. The best part about marble stone is that it is relatively easy to clean it and maintain its shine for many years to come. Here are few tried and tested tips to help you remove the stains completely.

Tip 1
Make a soft bread using some baby powder and approximately 12 percent of hydrogen peroxide. The ratio of both the ingredients would be more or less same. Keep adding their equal parts until thick paste like consistency is achieved. Now apply this paste or poultice onto the stain and cover it well with a plastic wrap. Tape the edges of the plastic wrap down and let t remain like that for a day or two. Once the plastic is removed, let the poultice harden. Then remove the poultice gently using a blunt edged knife. Wipe clean the surface with a soft, damp cloth and what you will get is a sparkling clean marble table top. This method works best in case of ink stains.

Tip 2
Dip a napkin or a paper towel in approximately 20 percent of hydrogen peroxide with 2 to 3 drops of ammonia into it. Put the soaked paper towel onto the stain and safeguard it with a plastic wrap. Tape the edges of the towel or the napkin (whichever is used) and let it sit like that for a period of 48 hours. Then remove the napkin and wipe clean the spot with a soft, damp cloth. The stain would be vanished for sure. This method works best to remove tea, coffee or soda stains.

Tip 3
Using car polishing compound for removing stains off marble table tops can be quite effective. This might need a dedicated effort but it would definitely help in lifting stains especially the rust stains.

Tip 4
For removing an oil or butter stain, just sprinkle some cornstarch on the stain and brush it away after an hour using a soft, clean cloth. A tough stain of oil can be removed from the marble surface using acetone.
